Happily Settled, Will Travel

[Day 23] What’s your level of location independence and your nomadic quotient?

Although I feel I have the qualities listed to be a suitcase entrepreneur, I don’t feel overly motivated to pursue that lifestyle. Sure I’d love to travel and visit places that inspire me and this blog challenge, especially getting a sense of how Natalie does it, has really had me question my desire to have a home base, but yes, I love having a home.

Kalamalka Lake, Vernon BC

Kalamalka Lake, Vernon BC

I realised a few weeks ago that the home I’m in now is the place I have been the longest in my life. Until this year I had never lived anywhere longer than 5 years, I was in Vernon BC from 1986 to 1991 but lived in a few different places, especially after I finished high school, returned from visiting Australia and started living independently at 18. I will never forget seeing the northern lights (aurora borealis) over Kalamalka Lake and thinking it was some kind of reflection from the ‘lake of many colours’! There will always be a special place in my heart for the Okanagan Valley. Continue reading

[Day 22] Melbourne is my city

If you chose to live anywhere in the world, where would that be and why?

I don’t think I’d want to be anywhere else to live. I have all I want here, family, 5 Ryhthms dance options 4 times a week, endless soul centred and conscious community events. MelbourneGreat people in my circles. Natural beauty is never far away. There are amazing laneways with all sorts of cool places to have a nice chai or look at the latest graffiti. Excellent public transport. A range of new and old architecture. What more could I want?

I have been to and lived in other great cities. Some of my faves are Vancouver BC, Montreal and San Francisco. I would love to visit Barcelona to see the Gaudi architecture, that’s on my bucket list. gaudi

But for the moment, I’m really happy where I am. I live in a world class city and am connected to some incredibly progressive and soulful communities. I feel blessed!

[Day 19] Leading change in changing times

Which methods do you want to use to build your platform and increase your influence?

Change Neon SignI’m starting to realise that my expertise is focused in the area of change, how people change, understanding my own experience of changing all manner of things from habits to daily practices to mindsets and beliefs. Blogging my own journey as I learn I think is the main way to build my platform. I am far more comfortable talking about change than leadership, I have views on leadership and could probably write a book on it but am at a place in that journey that is not as credible as my change experience and expertise. So now I’m wondering of the podcast is about leadership in times of change, starting with ourselves. What do you think?

[Days 15-18] Catching up!

After a busy few days we’re on to combining to get back on track.

Day 15 How are you building your email list? (Or what is/would be the purpose of your email/ newsletter, frequency and the type of content and value you would provide to readers.)
Response: Well, honestly, I’m not. I’m not there yet and it feels like the first step is to get clarity on what my business provides. I am learning so much about what I didn’t do when I started my business and all the things I can do. And starting with being clear on what need Audacious Leadership fills, the problem it solves at a practical level. It may even get a new name, we’ll see!
Fast forward to when that’s all sorted I would really like to find something other than Aweber or MailChimp. Surely someone is looking at the best of both of those and combining them! I’ll be getting some tech help in this area. See below.

Day 16 How will you build a team around your vision and work smart instead of hard?
Response: When my vision is established I’ll be sharing it far and wide, I’ll be communicating it widely. And that starts with the team, and maybe it’s even a team that co-creates it! Audacious Leadership is empowerment focused and it makes sense to have an empowered team that is involved in creating the business.

Day 17 What three steps can you take to build trust and credibility online for you, your brand and your business?
Response: In short, it will be more about others, and not just about what’s in my head.
1) Get involved in online discussions like LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook
2) Continue to promote people I believe in using my website, blog and social media. 3)Create a podcast that highlights leadership and change by providing short interviews that inspire and grow our own capacity for leadership and change and build a tribe of unconventional leaders who are resilient and embrace change.

Back scratching.

Back scratching.

[Day 14] Questions for you on podcasts and e-books

What are two key ways you could use the habits of a millionaire to monetize your blog in the next month?

Oh boy, another one I don’t feel inclined to jump on answering! But perhaps it’s a chance for me to ask you some things! question-mark

Firstly, finish my e-book! I can see how valuable this would be, not just for me to get the momentum going, but for the people who will eventually read it! I think getting a marketing plan happening might also spur me on. I plan to offer a complimentary copy of the e-book to my readers at first and then start selling it for a reasonable price.

Questions for you: Do you buy e-books? What do you normally pay for the books you buy? Where to do you buy them from? What are your favorite e-books? I’d love to know your thoughts!

Secondly, start my podcast! This is another idea I’ve had and not acted on beyond a practice interview. I will make a list of the people I want to interview and the basic questions to ask about leadership and change.

Questions for you: What do you want to know about leadership and change? What do you want to know from people who express leadership in a changing world? What kind of struggles are you having in terms of leadership, your own or others and how do you and others deal with change?

Thanks in advance for your support and answers!

[Day 13] Site flexibility please!

What three things would you most like your website to have and how will you go about getting them?

Again, better late than never. I have resisted this post because it feels so half-baked! It feels like I’m gestating, anticipating something new, growing and developing inside me. And it may well be different than tathra.me but it’s what I have for now so here goes.kelp light

1) Flexibility – Things change so quickly these days, I’m changing as much as the world is changing, and I want my site to be adaptable while providing consistency. I want to be able to change things quickly and easily without losing people. I want the changes to be what keep people coming back and being part of my tribe. How? Not sure, starting with the intention and exploring ways as I continue to learn this stuff!

2) Subscribe option – I want people to be able to find out that there is a new post without Continue reading

[Day 12] Inspire and empower with wisdom

What is your USP Unique Special Proposition that sets you apart from the crowd?

<Cringe!> Oh no, really? Ok, well, no point hiding. Sure, it’s taken me a bit of extra time but I’m going to put my crap aside and just start writing and see what happens. That seems to be the best way. I warn you now, this is going to get colourful!

I remember when I started my business 5 years ago someone I admire took me out for coffee and asked me about my USP, I could not answer him. I had NO idea what my thing was, I just knew what I wanted to do and in my naivety I didn’t even consider distinguishing myself. So, a few years later, this is what I can see about what I offer.

What do I do best? I evoke wisdom in people and groups.

Using my skills to help transform your relationship to the area you’re feeling stuck in, is my juice. I love shifting perspectives, reframing your point of view to shed new light and provide insight. I believe you know everything you need to but you may not be accessing that wisdom through the muck. My job is to help you remember who you are, help you access that skill and bring to light the awesomeness that you’ve forgotten was there.

What I provide as a coach and a facilitator is based on my sustainability background and is informed by my own inquiry and self-development journey. As an activist I was fascinated with what motivated people to change, to do things like start composting or stand up for human rights. As a sustainability consultant I have worked with thousands of people to change their daily practices, whether it’s about waste reduction or sustainable transport choices. As a coach I work with people to change how they see a situation, and connect to their amazing capacity, strength, courage and power. When I work with teams, I invite the group to demonstrate what they can achieve together that they can’t on their own. I love cultivating collective intelligence. We are all wise beyond our limited perception, and it often takes someone else to reflect that back and help people and groups reconnect to what they are capable of.

The thing you won’t get from me is a lot of “woo-woo” and hype. I won’t make big promises I can’t keep, or pretend that all you need to do is follow my instruction and you’ll be all fixed. You’re not broken, just not very present to your amazingness! I don’t pretend that unearthing awesomeness is always easy. Sometimes looking at our own Continue reading

Day 10 – Vision Reignited

What are the key ways in which you want to make money online in your chosen business OR Which are the key online revenue streams you want to focus on in your existing business?

I have a few ways on standby that aren’t new and a few ideas emerging from the resources through the blog challenge.  Of course coaching and facilitation are my main skills. The one’s I enjoy and know I’m good at, and at times, get paid to do!

A couple of things I’ve had in the pipe for a while are creating audio files of guided meditations, and writing an e-book. For a while, when I meditated what came to me, some might call this a ‘download’, were pieces of guided meditations, lots of really rich ideas that it simply felt wrong not to do anything with. I started gearing up for it, recording practice meditations, putting up a page on this site, talking to a friend who is a musician and sound editor. The energy was really there for a while, and then it waned. It’s still on the back burner, and when the time is right, I will pick this up again. I think this time may be soon.

I have been writing an e-book on empowering language on and off for over a year. I have taken various actions to support it’s completion: setting up a writing coach; putting the existing writing into a Scrivener document; and making public commitments to when I would finish it. It’s still in formation, and the other day I actually started up on it again! Very exciting. Again, inspiration from this blog challenge and reading some of the other blogs.

I know that once I get my first e-book done, it will pave the way for the next one. I have all sorts of ideas for what else to write about. There are a few key things that I talk with my clients about and it feels like having something people can read would be really useful. Language is a big one, choice and intention are two others. I feel like I could easily write a book on each if i had no other commitments or distractions!

Writing up ideas about what kinds of resources I can provide based on my experience, skills and passions, I start to generate a very big list! To me it feels a bit all over the place, blending business advice with professional skills and personal development. Ultimately, my thing is about leadership and change. All of what has brought me to this point is about developing ourselves and skilling ourselves up to lead this massive change that is happening on the planet. It’s going to take all of us. And those of us who are ready or ‘awake’ now have a specific role in taking the world in a new direction. To model a different way of living on earth, a different way of living, loving and being. To start at home, with ourselves, working on our own stuff, getting out of our own way. Leaving the confines of our comfort zones, getting into those vulnerable spaces, reaching out and getting the support we need to heal and create loving relationships with ourselves, eachother and naturally, the planet.

leaf life cycleI notice that once I start getting into it, my vision starts leaking out all over. It’s time to let this thing be reborn, starting with allowing a natural death, something, in fact a whole slew of things, need to die before the rebirth can happen. That’s where the work is for me. Walking my talk, starting at home, working on myself, getting my own shit out of the way. Continuing on the path of developing myself, my skills, my own relationship with myself, healing, reaching out, learning to love myself again.

Blog Challenge Day 9

Which online business do you admire and why?

Mindvalley is a business that operates primarily online with some face to face gatherings, which are also available online.

I admire this business for three reasons. It’s product, it’s purpose and it’s responsiveness.

The product is primarily consciousness raising tools, meditations with binaural beats, talks that discuss profound concepts, guided visualisations that transport me into a new level of awareness  and a foundational methodology that isn’t prescriptive. It appears to be based on the Silva Method but you don’t have to be a fan or devotee of the Silva Method to participate or enjoy what Mindvalley offers.

The product I use most is their app “Omvana” It has a number of included meditations, guided visualisations, inspiring poems and talks. As is all the rage in the app world, it has decent customisability. There is a mixer you can use to combine some of the sound files with the talks or other meditations. The option to add new tracks, and there is always something new. I was delighted to see a meditation by a woman I went to high school with in Canada added recently! Many of the store items are reasonably priced and some aren’t. It seems that there are fewer free tracks being added but don’t quote me on that.

img-omvanaMindvalley is all about raising consciousness and providing tools that support that mission.

One of the things that came through my inbox from Mindvalley last month indicated that the company is responding to the needs of their market. They provided some stats about how many of us are too stressed out to think about meditating or raising our consciousness. To respond to this new awareness they are looking to provide provide products focused on stress management. I admired this both in terms of transparency and in it’s willingness to respond to current information.

Tools for mindset maintenance

Which key tools will you turn to regularly to maintain your mindset and how will you use them effectively?

As Natalie said in her post, the internet is has tools a plenty for entrepreneurs, and just about anything you can think of these days. The challenge is to find the ones that not only fit who you are, but ones you’ll stick to. This has been a huge challenge for me. I can’t even list all of the things I’ve tried, business tools, personal development programs, online courses… A few of the recent ones are:

  • Udemy – Online Coaching Course that I actually completed!
  • Wealthy Mind Warrior  – Success Mindset Teleconference, I’m in the middle of it
  • Silva Life System – to access deeper levels of your mind’s functionality, probably got nearly half way through.
  • Eben Pagan’s Self Made Wealth – a few years old, some good stuff to release old beliefs, have listened to a few, really confront’s your crap about money and wealth, which on a conscious level I appreciate, tho I think my subconscious may have other ideas.
  • EQ’s Life Design – I really loved this course, very integrated and dealt with so many areas of life. It’s a 7-day intensive in Sydney, did it nearly a year ago. Included several sessions with a coach to follow up and a year of access to their local monthly “Success Club” events to provide an environment to continue to apply the learning.
  • Money Love – lead by my EQ coach, Lotus Kruse, she’s the only Australian trained facilitator or Meadow DeVor’s course based on her book.
